(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain name registrar and web host LCN.com (www.lcn.com) has now made it simple and affordable for domain owners to keep their personal contact details private with the launch of its new domain privacy product.
Whenever a domain name is purchased, the owners name, address, and phone number are entered into the public WHOIS (www.whois.net) database, exposing this personal information to spammers, telemarketers and other undesired third parties. According to LCN.com’s Thursday announcement, the LCN.com “Domain Privacy Protector” has been launched to address the growing concern surrounding the use of the public database as a resource for scammers and spammers.
“At LCN.com we have been responding to our customers’ demands with a huge number of new product features and offerings this year,” LCN.com managing director Mark Boost. “By listening to our customers’ feedback and requests we have been able to tailor our products to their exact requirements”
Domain Privacy Protector uses a default email address, postal address and phone number to appear as the contact information in the public WHOIS database. Requests to contact the domain owner are then filtered and forwarded to the customer.
The privacy offered by Domain Privacy Protector and similar domain privacy services does not mean, however, that an individual registering a domain can provide incorrect information. As well, authorities are granted access to domain records – meaning that domain customers cannot escape the law if using their domain for illegal purposes.
