Layered Tech Adds New Firewall to Astro Platform

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — On-demand IT infrastructure provider Layered Technologies (www.layeredtech.com) has expanded its offerings available on its automated server provisioning platform, Astro, to include virtual firewall solutions from security provider Fortinet (www.fortinet.com).

Launched in January, Layered Tech’s Astro platform lets customers add additional services to servers within minutes, gaining security, flexibility and affordability. According to Layered Tech’s Wednesday announcement, Fortinet’s virtual firewall services offer highly available protection for critical private data and systems with maximum network uptime, and the flexibility to configure the firewall to meet their specific port requirements, as well as monthly fees that are affordable for smaller enterprises.

“We transformed server provisioning and delivery with the launch of Astro earlier this year, and we continue to make investments to advance this unique, automated platform so our customers have the tools and services they need to succeed,” Layered Tech CIO and COO Terrance Bush said in a statement. “The addition of our Virtual Firewall Solutions to the Astro platform gives our rapid deployment server customers the option to quickly add robust security at very affordable prices so their data stays safe from threats that are all too common today.”

With the addition of firewall services to any rapid deployment server, customers can quickly and easily add layers of protection to defend their domains against threats from the public Internet without a major investment.

Originally launched at its DataBank data center located in Dallas, Layered Tech also announced that it plans to expand Astro into its Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Chicago facilities in the near future.

In addition to the recently added firewall solutions, Astro also gives customers the option of bundling managed services, such as Layered Tech’s DEFCON server management program, which delivers tiered levels of security, support, monitoring and specialized software for both dedicated and virtual machines.

The newly updated and integrated centralized client management portal, Encompass, also lets customers easily manage their account, request support, reboot servers and access other critical information such as bandwidth graphs, alerts and notifications. Also, for partners, an open API created by Layered Tech lets them display inventory and coordinate sales in real-time from their own Web sites.
