(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — As the result of more than a year of preparation, on-demand IT infrastructure provider Layered Technologies (www.layeredtech.com) has launched a fully automated web hosting platform promising to dramatically accelerate the availability and provisioning of servers for both customers and partners.
According to Layered Tech, which make the announcement Tuesday, the platform, developed under the codename Astro, is a unique combination of hardware and software providing flexibility, removing delays, and increasing server procurement efficiency, accelerating server delivery and enriching customer experience.
“What it will do in a nutshell is it can take a physical machine and we can stick any components into it – any processor, any amount of ram, any hard drive,” Layered Tech chief marketing officer John Pozadzides said. “We can carry that over and plug it into a rack and all we have to do is plug in an Ethernet cable and power and when we turn that machine on… it will read all of the components that are contained within that server and put that server back to sleep and automatically make that server available in our inventory for sale.”
Once a server is racked and powered, the system automatically evaluates the equipment and populates the Layered Tech inventory, making it available to customers and partners immediately online.Layered Tech has also created a new open API that will allow its reseller partners to display inventory and coordinate sales in real-time from their own websites.
Layered Tech chief executive officer Jack Finlayson said the new platform has been the result of business growth and significant investments in research and development, as well as company-wide commitment and a year of constant effort from the development team. “Layered Tech has focused on making the right investments at the right time, and Astro fits within that strategy,” Finlayson said in a statement.
Pozadzides notes that to fully relize this platform, Layered Tech had to lay the groundwork for it by unifying its back-end systems over the course of nine months, using Microsoft Dynamics AX. “Essentially what it did was unify all our separate systems into one so things like billing and accounting are merged together with inventory management, provisioning, CRM, etc.,” he said. He added that this is the only company in the industry with this level of integration.
Pozadzides said that Layered Tech’s platform was designed to offer the same options as before, with a few add-ons. Currently, Layered Tech’s full Linux operating system lineup is available, with Microsoft-based operating systems becoming available within 30 days including both Server 2003 and 2008.
Beginning in February, Layered Tech said the platform will be completely integrated with its newly updated client management portal, Encompass, allowing customers to easily manage their account, request support, reboot servers and access information such as bandwidth graphs, alerts and notifications.
