Dutch telecom KPN recently announced the acquisition of hosting provider Argeweb. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Argeweb provides web hosting, domain registration, hosted Microsoft Exchange and cloud storage services. It is based in Maassluis, which is close to Rotterdam. According to a report by TotalTelecom, Argeweb currently serves more than 50,000 customers.

Argeweb will join KPN’s cloud services unit, Software Online. KPN has named Koen van Deudekom, who currently acts as manager of cloud services in the Software Online unit as director of Argeweb.

KPN’s Business Market division delivers cloud services to 150,000 clients. KPN said the acquisition of Argeweb will increase its market position and scale in the Netherlands.

With customers concerned about data location and US cloud providers failing to comply with EU data protection laws, exploring acquisitions and partnerships in the Netherlands, where KPN already has a strong foothold, will help the company grow its market share.

Also as part of the deal, KPN has formed a partnership with Argeweb’s sister company Amsio. Amsio provides enterprise cloud storage and resells Microsoft Azure cloud services. The partnership will give KPN’s corporate customers direct access to Amsio’s products.
