Cloud software and service provider Joyent (www.joyent.com) announced on Tuesday it has formed a partnership where mobile backend technology firm StackMob (www.stackmob.com) will provide its mobile application development platform to users of Joyent’s public cloud service and the Node.js-based platform as a service solution.
The partnership will see StackMob deliver a complete backend technology stack as a platform for mobile applications.
As a result, developers will be able to build, deploy and scale mobile applications faster and easier on a fully hosted and managed platform.
Developers will be able to integrate common mobile functions such as messaging, analytics and monetization via APIs instead of having to create these services themselves.
StackMob’s mobile platform is built upon Joyent’s IaaS platform, using Joyent SmartMachines and hyper-scalable architecture to deliver a “high performance and affordable mobile PaaS platform,” said the company.
Joyent is a key contributor of Node.js, and has had years of experience delivering scalable and reliable cloud solutions for games on the Facebook network.
The cloud applications developer will work with StackMob to provide its existing developer base with an effective mobile solution.
“We have always provided developers with cloud infrastructure built for next-generation applications, so working with StackMob to provide their mobile solution is a natural fit for Joyent,” said Steve Tuck, general manager of JoyentCloud. “And as StackMob’s customers commercially launch their applications, the Joyent cloud infrastructure is ready to support their growth.”
StackMob’s service is currently in private beta, which developers can sign up for the service at JoyentCloud Mobile.
