Joyent announced on Tuesday the release of its cloud object store and data services platform Joyent Manta Storage Service.

Joyent Manta Storage Service enables log analysis, search index generation, financial analysis and other data-intensive tasks without any data movement or setup of compute clusters or processing software.

With the new service, enterprises can process big data faster and more securely, according to Joyent, while developers and system admins can “affordably ask countless questions of their data.”

The new service is the latest move in Joyent’s focus on cloud services, an area it started to accelerate last year with the addition of Henry Wasik, Joyent CEO. Recently, Joyent added 13 new instance types to mimic Amazon’s most popular virtual server types, and began offering a database-as-a-service on its cloud platform.

According to Gartner, 80 percent of enterprise data is unstructured and is growing at 40 percent per year. Joyent says this research validates its new cloud storage service which provides a multi-data center object store with fine-grain replication controls, no object size limits and per-object replication policies.

Joyent has established several partnerships to extend its service capabilities, including partnerships with Dell and data storage management company Panzura.

“Joyent Manta Storage Service ushers in a new era of innovation in data storage and analytics, as it takes a process that was once prohibitively expensive and time-consuming and completely turns it on its head,” Henry Wasik, president and CEO, Joyent said in a statement. “By completely changing the economics of data management, Manta allows businesses across all industries to unlock the potential of the next generation of data services.”
