IT Veteran Joins Infinera Board

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Digital optical communications systems provider Infinera (www.infinera.com) announced on Wednesday it has named 25-year IT veteran Kambiz Hooshmand to the Infinera board of directors.

This announcement follows another recent appointment in November, when the company named Chris Champion vice president of sales for EMEA.

Hooshmand succeeds Alexandre Balkanski, who is stepping down from the board after serving since 2001.

“We are grateful to Alex Balkanski for his service as a board member practically since the inception of Infinera,” says Jagdeep Singh, chairman, co-founder and chief executive officer of Infinera. “His vision, counsel and experience have been invaluable as we have grown Infinera from startup to a publicly-owned and leading optical transport company.”

Hooshmand has 25 years of strategic and operating experience in the communications, networking, semiconductor and telecom industries.

He will use this experience to help broaden the company’s product offerings and global reach in the optical networking industry.

Recently, Hooshmand served as CEO and president of Applied Micro Circuits where he helped launch the company into the 10G Ethernet and optical transport networks markets, while significantly increasing AMCC revenues.

During this tenure, AMCC became a recognized leader in the emerging data center application market.

Before joining AMCC in 2005, he served Cisco Systems for nine years, most recently as general manager and group vice president for optical & broadband.

Hooshmand has also served with StrataCom and Rolm Corporation.
