June 26, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Hosting software provider Parallels (parallels.com) announced that Netherlands-based Internet service provider ProServe (proserve.nl) has selected Parallels Virtuozzo Containers 4.0 to deliver a cost-efficient and scalable online backup solution via a software-as-a-service model.

Parallels Virtuozzo Containers provides the virtualization technology for ProServe’s Virtual Online Backup Server offering, which offers the “necessary performance, cost-efficiency, scalability and isolation needed” for its VOBS offered in a SaaS delivery model.

The fact that the service is offered via a SaaS platform enables ProServe’s end users to access the backup server without the expensive costs involved with hardware, licensing and ongoing maintenance.

Parallels virtualization and automation solutions enable service providers and ISVs to deliver web applications, multi-tenant applications and traditional single instance applications without significant integration or development.

“Parallels Virtuozzo Containers 4.0 combined with our automation software provides the ideal platform for companies like ProServe that are looking to capitalize on the SaaS opportunity,” says Soeren von Varchmin, vice president SaaS and service providers international at Parallels. “ProServe’s VOBS solution is another example of how our SaaS enablement technologies are driving real business results for service providers and their customers.”

The ProServe VOBS offering provides many software capabilities and services, including backup storage from 1GB up to 250GB, flexible backup schedules from days, weeks, months and years and support with modules for Microsoft Exchange/SQL, Lotus Domino, Oracle and MySQL.

The SaaS feature enables end users to create a new virtual container in merely one command line and less than five minutes time.

Parallels Virtuozzo Containers is a operating system virtualization solution that when run on a single physical server and single OS installation, it enables users to process simultaneous workloads in containers.

The company’s virtualization and automation software helps optimize computing for consumers, businesses and service providers across all major hardware, operating systems and virtualization platforms.

Last week, Parallels Server for Mac was first implemented in Media Temple’s hosting environment.
