(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider iomart Hosting (www.iomart.com) announced on Wendesday it is sponsoring a new charity calendar (www.nudetechcalendar.ning.com) that features 24 London technology entrepreneurs in the nude.
Spawned by technology writer Milo Yiannopoulos, the Nude London Tech calendar is designed to raise money for Take Heart India (www.takeheartindia.org), a charity which provides IT training to disabled people in India.
One of the group’s main focuses is in training blind students in IT skills.
“Someone suggested the idea as a joke, and I just thought why not,” says Yiannopoulos. “There is a perception that the people who run these internet start ups are unattractive geeks, and I wanted to show that’s not the case.”
Using social networking sites such as Twitter, Yiannopoulos drummed up interest in the calendar project among many companies and individuals in the IT industry.
In the works since August, all the models, photographers and other contributors have volunteered their time to create the calendar.
The calendar, which is now available for £10 at the Firebox website, features 24 IT business men and women in the nude with strategically-positioned computer equipment.
“What appealed to us was that the calendar perfectly captures the vibrancy and fun spirit that is present within our Industry, in complete contrast to the stereotypical geek image that is usually associated with IT people.” says Phil Worms, director of corporate communications at iomart Hosting. “Mercifully, though, no-one from iomart Hosting volunteered to strip off. We thought it best to keep our racks well and truly covered in our data centers.”
