(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Managed hosting and cloud computing services company iomart Group (www.iomart.com) announced on Monday that is has completed the second phase of its expansion at its Spectrum House, Maidenhead, UK data center.
This completion comes a couple weeks after iomart announced new contracts worth $2.9 million.
According to iomart, the expansion is a result of customer demand and will add approximately 7,000 square feet of new data center space, or 300 high density racks. The new space has free air cooling, 2N UPS and N+1 backup generators, providing 240V AC power to each cabinet.
iomart says that this expansion brings its total data center space to almost 14,000 square feet.
“Spectrum House has provided our clients with exceptional service since we opened the facility in early 2009, but we have quickly reached a stage where we needed to expand to meet the Group’s current and future customer growth needs,” Ed Butler, director of RapidSwitch, an iomart Group company, said in a statement. “We have doubled our capacity both in data center space and network capacity.”
Butler was responsible for managing the expansion.”Given its physical proximity to our City of London data center, Spectrum House is a vital component of the Group’s high availability cloud offerings,” he said. “The interconnectivity between the two locations provides an ideal solution for cloud based disaster recovery, mirroring and backup solutions.”
Spectrum House is connected to iomart’s UK network of four data centers through dedicated dark fiber, providing access to more than 40GB of Internet connectivity.
iomart Group has posted a video tour of its Maidenhead facility on YouTube.
In November 2010, iomart Group acquired managed web hosting company Titan Internet Limited for $6.7 million.
