(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A major sign that its quality and information assurance efforts are paying off, UK managed hosting and data services provider iomart (www.iomart.com) has received confirmation from the International Organisation for Standardisation of its ISO9001:2008 Quality Management Systems and ISO 27001:2005 Information Security Management Systems certification.
“Iomart’s achievement of these two accreditations represent an important milestone in our ongoing quality and information assurance initiatives,” iomart chief executive officer Angus MacSween said in a statement. “It provides assurance to the market, and particularly our customers, that iomart is ensuring that best practise is being implemented consistently throughout its operations.”
Recognized globally, ISO9001 is a standard for providing assurance about an organisation’s ability to satisfy both quality requirements and the enhancement of its customer relationships. Its certification this week, makes Iomart one of the first companies in the world to achieve the 2008 version of the standard that became available this past November, according to the company’s Wednesday announcement.
Developed specifically for ISMS testing, ISO27001 requires a company to demonstrate its systematic approach to managing and securing sensitive corporate data and information. Iomart is the latest hosting provider to be granted ISO 27001 certification, joining a handful of others including LeaseWeb (www.leaseweb.com), TelecityRedbus (www.telecityredbus.com), and Arsys Internet (www.arsys.net) as ISO 27001 certified firms.
“These accreditations clearly demonstrate that we can ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of both our own systems and those that we manage on behalf of our customers, within our data centres,” MacSween said. After being rewarded these two certifications, MacSween said that iomart now plans to meet the requirements for the ISO14001 Environmental Management Standard certification.
