i/o Data Centers Debuts Patent-Pending Tech in Phoenix

June 30, 2009 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center solutions provider i/o Data Centers (www.iodatacenters.com) has two patents pending for technology installed in its 538,000 square-foot Phoenix ONE data center, which officially opened last week, becoming the largest commercially available data center in North America.

According to a Phoenix Business Journal report, in addition to being the largest, i/o Data Centers intends for the new site to be the most innovative.

I/o Data Centers president Anthony Wanger told the Phoenix Business Journal that the new facility uses a server enclosure called the ThermoCabinet, which draws cool air circulating under the raised floor up through the closed cabinet, enabling cabinets to pack as many as 10 times as much equipment compared to traditional data centers. “We’re seeing people pack 5,000 square feet of data center into two cabinets,” Wanger said.

The company has also made it easier to distribute power and infrastructure by developing an electrical plug system that works with equipment from any manufacturer. “This is all customer-driven,” Wanger said. “People said they wanted access to multiple brands of equipment.”
