(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator i/o Data Centers (www.iodatacenters.com) announced this week it has begun construction on the second phase of its flagship facility, Phoenix One.

The announcement follows recent news that i/o Data Centers has been selected by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah to design, build and operate its corporate data center.

The company says the data center’s space has been selling rapidly, which prompted it to began the second phase expansion.

The construction start is about two years ahead of schedule for the largest data center in the Valley, which is converting a former manufacturing facility of more than 500,000 square feet into a home for co-located servers and network operations.

“We are extremely pleased with the demand we have seen so far,” says CEO George Slessman.

Phase II will essentially double the size of the data center to 360,000 square feet.

The company will add a 20 MW power supply and 36 MW of backup power, as well as upgrade the onsite electric substation to handle the expansion.
