(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European data center operator Inerxion (www.interxion.com) announced Wednesday that it plans to expand its Amsterdam AMS 5 facility by close to 12,000 square feet, a project that it expects to complete in August 2010.
Interxion says the strong and groing demand for quality colocation facilities in Amsterdam has driven the company to expand its facilities in the area, this being the company’s third expansion in the Amsterdam area during the last 18 months.
According to Interxion’s announcement, the new expansion, like the AMS 5 facility itself, has received the AMS-IX certification, issued by the Amsterdam Internet Exchange.
“Amsterdam is a key market for Interxion, and we are continuously seeing an increase in demand from customers who are migrating to our highly resilient, low-latency colocation facilities,” says Michael van den Assem, managing director for Interxion in the Netherlands. “The occupancy level in the current phase of the AMS 5 data centre is very high, and we are already experiencing strong demand for the additional space, specifically from the enterprise and digital media sectors.”
The new space will provide 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling, says Interxion, along with advanced alarm and monitoring systems, all of it supported by high-density power configurations. Like the original facility, all power for the expansion will come from renewable resources, including wind, biomass and hydro power generation.
The company says the facility has been designed using its energy-efficient modular architecture.
In February, Interxion reported that it had raised about $278 million through the sale of senior secured notes.
