(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European carrier-neutral data centers provider Interxion (www.interxion.com) has opened its second Dublin data center, DUB2, designed to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient, high-power-density colocation infrastructure and outsourced managed services from within Ireland and abroad.
According to Interxion’s Thursday announcement, the new, €12 million (roughly $16 million) data center will provide an additional 8,054-square-feet of gross space, increasing Interxion’s overall capacity to 15,600 square feet. With a redundant 4 MVA grid connection, the data center supports the latest high-density power configuration requirements. It offers 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling, as well as advanced alarm and monitoring systems.
Eamon Ryan, Minister of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, officially opened the new data center on behalf of the Irish government, highlighting Interxion’s energy-efficient modular architecture that uses free cooling and maximum-efficiency components. Power monitoring and management systems also enable customers to monitor their power usage, streamlining their operations to optimize Power Usage Effectiveness.
“The Irish Government has prioritised energy efficient ICT and the establishment of new data centers in our framework for economic renewal,” Ryan said. “With our temperate climate, Ireland is one of the best locations for the construction of data centers internationally and this provides us with a real competitive advantage.” said Eamon TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. “Interxion has clearly recognised these advantages, in establishing its second data center here in Park West. This is a company that is focused on energy-efficient operations, on delivering green jobs, and I wish them the very best in their endeavors.”
Since establishing a presence there in 2001, Interxion’s business in Ireland has grown significantly with a major part coming from telecoms providers, enterprises and other technology companies that are seeking carrier and vendor-neutral infrastructure combined with a constant focus on customer satisfaction. Interxion is a co-founder of the Uptime institute’s EMEA Chapter, and a contributing member of The Green Grid and The EC Joint Research Center on Sustainability.
Tanya Duncan, Interxion Ireland’s managing director, said more than 90 people were involved in the completion of the company’s complex data center. “The completion of the project means that we are able to further strengthen Park West’s reputation as a key ICT hub and continue to meet demand for data center space in the region, from all sectors of the market,” she said in a statement. “Our modular build-out approach and lean infrastructure design enables us to offer energy-efficient and cost-effective data center services, both of which are of great appeal to Irish customers. The quick uptake of our services has meant that we are already at 50 percent capacity in the new facility, which means we have been able to further enhance the PUE for the data center.”
Based in the Netherlands, Interxion has been quickly building out its data center footprint across the 11 countries in which it operates. Earlier this week, the company acquired a new site in Frankfurt, Germany, for the construction of the company’s seventh data center there, which could be as large as 15,000 square feet. Last week Interxion announced plans to expand its Amsterdam facility by nearly 12,000 square feet.
