Interxion Dublin Data Center Buildout Employs 90

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European data center operator Interxion (www.interxion.com) announced on Monday that it has hired construction firm StructureTone to build its new €12 million data center in Dublin.

The announcement comes jut a few days after the opening of Interxion’s PAR 5 data center in Saint Denis, a suburb located 5.8 miles from the center of Paris.

The firm has employed 90 construction workers for the initial construction phase, with the data center set for completion and ready for customer installations in early 2010.

The new data center will meet Interxion’s growing customer demand for energy-efficient, high-power-density data center infrastructure and outsourced managed services.

Once completed, the data center will provide an additional 8,054 square feet of gross equipped space, more than doubling Interxion’s footprint in Dublin.

The facility is backed by a redundant 4 MVA grid connection, which will support the latest high-density power configurations.

It will offer 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling as well as advanced alarm and monitoring systems and has been designed using Interxion’s energy-efficient modular architecture, with free cooling and maximum-efficiency components as standard.

The data center’s power monitoring and management systems will let customers monitor their power usage and optimize Power Usage Effectiveness. Customers can choose from single cabinets, caged areas, or private suite.

“We’re pleased to appoint industry-leading contractors StructureTone to design and build the data center to the highest standards, with an emphasis on power efficiency, security, resilience and connectivity,” says Tanya Duncan, managing director at Interxion Ireland. “We are excited to see construction already underway and have already geared up our team to handle in-bound enquires on space availability and the new site. We have also strengthened our operations team so that we are ready for the installation of new customers when the first phase of data center space goes live in early 2010.”

Interxion’s business in Ireland has grown substantially over the last two years, with the majority of this growth stemming from telecos, enterprises and other technology companies looking for carrier and vendor-neutral infrastructure.

According to a recent IDC study conducted on behalf of Interxion, the continuing demand for outsourced data centers seen by major European markets is likely to result in an estimated CAGR of 23 percent over the next four years.
