(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European data center operator Intterxion (www.interxion.com) annnounced on Wednesday it has acquired a new green field site in Frankfurt, Germany, along with implemented power supply to meet demand for high-density requirements in Germany’s central data hub.
The announcement follows the completion of its sixth data center campus, FRA 6 facility, which will be completed for the third quarter.
The new site is located in eastern Frankfurt and has space to accomodate a 15,000 square feet data center.
New data center space developed on the site could double the space Interxion will operate in Frankfurt to over 98,425 square feet of gross space when it completes FRA 6.
The company has been rapidly expanding its IT infrastructure across Europe. Last week it announced plans to expand its Amsterdam AMS 5 facility by nearly 12,000 square feet.
The company added 38,058 square feet of its total 80,446 square feet of data center space in 2009 alone, to meet this growing demand from customers and prospects.
In addition to Frankfurt, new data center space is currently being built and provisioned by the company in Zurich, Paris and Dublin.
“Where demand is strong, we have the capabilities to accelerate supply to keep ahead of customer needs, and we are currently experiencing sustained demand in all of our key markets,” says Anthony Foy, Interxion Group managing director. “In the German market in particular, our Frankfurt campus has an excellent reputation for operational expertise and efficiency, as well as exceptional carrier and ISP connectivity, and this is combining with broader pan-European trends to accelerate growth.”
