September 7, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Voice and data network operator Interoute (interoute.com) announced on Friday that it had entered an agreement to acquire all the European operations of carrier and Web host VIA NET.WORKS (vianetworks.com).
According to the terms of the agreement, Interoute will acquire all VIA’s operations in Spain, France and Germany, as well as its PSINet Europe operations in Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Switzerland.
Interoute says the acquisition will combine with its existing colocation and connectivity portfolio to place the company as one of the foremost pan-European suppliers of managed hosting and communications solutions for enterprise customers. VIA’s portfolio of hosting and data centers will be supported by Interoute’s network. And customers of both companies will be able to take advantage of an expanded range of services.
“Not only does this acquisition enable us to add thousands of new enterprise customers to the Interoute network,” says Interoute executive chairman James Kinsella, “but it provides them with stability and continuity after some turbulent times. The integration of the VIA NET.WORKS business will further strengthen Interoute’s position as a leading provider of services to European enterprise customers and continue our track-record of expansion.”
