(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider and Internet backbone carrier Hurricane Electric (www.he.net) announced on Tuesday it has established a point-of-presence with Standard Connections (www.standardconnections.com) in Toronto.
The company recently established a PoP in The Pittock Internet Exchange in Portland as well as within the Phoenix NAP facility.
Located at 151 Front Street West, the expansion enables Hurricane Electric to offer Standard Connections’ clients greater bandwidth, reduced latency and enhanced quality of service. The new PoP broadens its network reach through the opportunity for additional peering relationships.
“Hurricane Electric is delighted to be able to connect at Standard Connections,” said Martin Levy, Hurricane Electric’s director of IPv6 strategy. “Hurricane Electric’s new point-of-presence will give users of Standard Connections’ facility the ability to access Hurricane Electric’s unsurpassed connectivity and allows Hurricane Electric to continue our strategic global expansion.”
The company’s global Internet backbone is one of the few that is IPv6-native and does not rely on internal tunnels for IPv6 connectivity.
Hurricane Electric provides every customer with IPv6 and classic IPv4 connectivity and connects to more than 1,000 associated IPv6 backbones.
As part of its initiative to educate network operators, chief information officers and C-level executives about the benefits of IPv6 and how to implement it, Hurricane Electric recently launched an IPv6 YouTube channel providing weekly updates on the development of IPv6.
In November, Levy spoke at the Digital Government Institute’s Government IPv6: What to Expect in 2011 conference. His presentation, “IPv6: A Global Perspective”, addressed regional rates of IPv6 adoption and IPv6 transition techniques.
