Internap, SoftLayer Sign $40m Deal

March 6, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet business solutions provider Internap Network Services (internap.com) announced on Thursday that it has signed a five-year $40 million contract with Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (softlayer.com) where Internap will deliver data center colocation, route-optimized IP networking and content delivery network services. This new agreement is in addition to the five-year $16 million contract announced by the two companies in November 2007.

These Internap services will expand SoftLayer’s on-demand hosting infrastructure to the Eastern United States and be seamlessly integrated with SoftLayer’s data centers in Dallas, Texas and Seattle, Washington, say the companies.

“Internap and SoftLayer are bringing to the market a new, tightly coupled managed hosting model that is delivering enterprise-class, large-scale computing by the slice,” says Lance Crosby, CEO at SoftLayer. “With Internap we’ve been able to get to market faster and deliver higher quality solutions that our customers value and are core to their business operations. The combination of Internap’s world-class IP networking, data center colocation and content delivery network along with SoftLayer’s innovative product development, flexible deployment and automation tools, creates and delivers the most advanced on-demand hosting services available today.”

Online jeweler ICE.com recently began leveraging Internap’s CDN, Professional Services and Flow Control Platform, to provide a reliable online shopping experience for its customers.
