(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Network-neutral data center and Internet exchange services provider Switch and Data (www.switchanddata.com) has announced that Internap Network Services Corporation (www.internap.com), a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, has expanded its footprint to offer its performance IP services at a Switch and Data facility in North New Jersey.
According to its Monday announcement, Internap expects to enhance the performance and predictability of its Internet service for businesses in the New Jersey area by providing “The Ultimate Online Experience” to customers at Switch and Data’s 163,000 square foot data center, North Bergen, New Jersey, data center.
“Internap is excited to join Switch and Data at its North Bergen, NJ facility because we can now offer our industry-leading availability, performance and support through our IP service to Switch and Data NJ customers,” Internap IP product management director Amar Khan said in a statement. “The North Bergen facility is an ideal location as it has a well-established base of customers that have critical applications running over the Internet that require a solution which provides the right mix of quality colocation with reliable IP.”
The expansion into North Bergen is part of Internap’s ongoing strategy to deliver value-added IP capabilities to businesses. Working with Switch and Data, Internap currently offers its services in locations throughout North America, including Switch and Data facilities in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Philadelphia, New York, and Toronto. Additionally, Internap is a member of Switch and Data’s Palo Alto and New York PAIX Internet exchanges where it peers traffic directly with destination networks to enhance performance and resiliency.
“We are pleased that Internap has chosen to add our North Bergen site to the long list of locations where our customers can access its high performance IP transit and CDN services,” Switch and Data senior vice president and chief marketing officer Ernie Sampera said in a statement. “The high network densities and quality providers in our data centers make them a logical place for service providers to exchange traffic and reach new customers.”
Switch and Data’s North Bergen site is built to Switch and Data’s latest high-performance standard and can support the latest high-density power and cooling deployments with an N+1 design for all power and environmental systems. It provides 24/7 on-site remote technical service and support, and live remote monitoring of all building and infrastructure alarm systems.
Northern and central New Jersey have been popular locations for data centers and online services partly because of its close proximity to the New York metropolitan area. Last week, for instance, managed services provider DataPipe (www.datapipe.com) added a third data center facility in Somerset, New Jersey. The 55,000-square-foot data center is the company’s seventh in total.
The New York metropolitan area is the most populous metropolitan area in the US according to a 2007 government estimate, with its nearly 19 million people in the New York city area between New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania boroughs.
