April 4, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Network solutions firm Internap (internap.com) said Thursday that it would provide its Performance IP solution to Engine Yard (engineyard.com), a provider of Ruby on Rails application development and support.
Internap says the service will optimize applications by improving the network performance and traffic control involved in their delivery.
Engine Yard uses the Ruby on Rails open-source programming language and Web framework to build database-driven Web applications, hosting those applications and providing customers with infrastructure and support. Adding Internap’s IP service to the mix will give its applications the support of a service level agreement guaranteeing 100 percent uptime.
“We chose to offer Internap Performance IP network service as part of our Ruby on Rails application infrastructure so that we can deliver maximum performance and operational continuity,” says Lance Walley, chief executive officer of Engine Yard, in a press release issued by Internap. “Internap has earned a terrific reputation for decreased network latency, promising 100 percent reliability.”
Internap says its availability promise is made possible by its architecture, which routs traffic over multiple high-capacity connections to all major Internet backbones. The company employs a patented route-control technology to monitor the performance of every available path, automatically directing traffic over the fastest connections.
Engine Yard was started in 2006. The company’s Web site says it employs 50 people on four continents, and operates two data centers.
