June 13, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet business solutions provider Internap Network Services (internap.com) announced on Friday that its content delivery network (internapcdn.com) has been selected by American alternative rock band Pearl Jam to deliver “high-quality” recordings of its 2008 tour performances on its website (pearljam.com).
Internap says Pearljam.com has been running on its Performance IP network for an undisclosed number of years and now the band’s management has extended its contract to include Internap’s CDN. The band rose to prominence during the grunge movement in the ’90s for its singles “Alive” and “Even Flow.”
With this new service, Pearl Jam offers its fans a chance to see them live in concert and then purchase and download the “bootleg recordings” of the actual performance through the website, says Internap. According to the announcement, the recordings will be available to fans “within a few weeks of the actual performance.”
As demand and traffic to the site increases, Internap says its combined CDN and Performance IP network services will provide 100 percent reliability for the site, even fielding spontaneous spikes in traffic that could occur during the Pearl Jam 2008 tour.
“Over nearly 20 years, Pearl Jam has become one of the most influential bands in the world by breaking down barriers between their music and their fans,” says Jim Leach, VP of marketing at Internap. “Now, Pearl Jam is using Internap’s network technology to build even closer connections with its audience through pearljam.com and the new music download service of its live concerts.”
The Pearl Jam 2008 tour kicked off earlier this week on June 11 at the Cruzan Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida and continues for 13 scheduled performances along the East Coast, wrapping up on June 30 at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
In the last month, Internap announced it has signed new service agreements with domain registrar Register.com and MOLI, a “next generation social media and social commerce site.”
Internap also reported in May it will be adding around 15,000 square feet of colocation at a new stand-alone 45,000 square foot facility adjacent to its existing Boston data center.
