Intermedia Opens First Data Center in the UK

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Email hosting provider  Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) announced on Tuesday it has opened its first data center in the UK.

The new ISO27001- and SAS 70-certified data center supports Intermedia Exchange hosting customers in the UK, as well as throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Located in Slough, UK, Intermedia says the new data center is the “only facility in the UK that provides hosted Exchange 2010 with clustering and redundant server infrastructure”.

Intermedia invested in the data center to support the UK’s continued high demand for hosted communications.

The company tripled its UK customer base in 2009 with service offerings including hosted Microsoft Exchange, Office Communications Server 2007, SharePoint and support for BlackBerry, iPhone, Droid and other smartphones.

Earlier this year, Intermedia extended its hosted Exchange 2010 service to the UK market, making it the first company to deliver Exchange 2010 with clustering and redundant server infrastructure.

“UK small- and medium-sized businesses represent an important market for Intermedia,” says Jonathan McCormick, COO of Intermedia. “By opening this data center, we are able to deliver in-country hosted communications that save companies up to 90 percent versus the cost of operating the same services internally. This gives small- and medium-sized businesses cost-effective, highly reliable access to the same communications tools that FTSE 100 companies use.”

Like Intermedia’s four North American data centers, the UK data center features redundant Tier-1 Internet connections and hardware from Cisco, Dell and EMC, which assure high reliability and fast email delivery.

The UK data center also assures in-country email storage for UK companies.

The new data center offers proprietary technology and features including premium infrastructure backed by a near 100 percent uptime service level agreement, free full-service migration, control of the Exchange environment, and support with an average hold time of less than one minute.
