Intermedia Adds SaaS to In-House Exchange

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Email hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) announced on Monday it is offering two new solutions that provides hosted Microsoft Exchange to SMBs who have an on-premise Exchange server.

Many SMBs are unable to migrate to hosted services because of the hassles of switching platforms or licensing complications.

For this reason, Intermedia decided to offer the benefits of SaaS to these businesses in the form of its new Business Continuity and SpamStopper solutions.

“Email is a critical part of doing business and for SMBs who are running in-house mail servers, there is a high risk of downtime and unsecure emails entering the environment,” says Serguei Sofinski, CEO of Intermedia. “Intermedia’s new offerings are designed to address some of the biggest pain points that small businesses face today. Our goal is to provide solutions that enable users to continue their business operations without risking lost productivity.”

Intermedia’s Business Continuity solution is designed to provide the high availability of its hosted Exchange solution to on-premise Exchange servers by enabling SMBs to use Intermedia’s servers to access their email when their Exchange server goes down.

The Exchange-based solution gives full access to user mailboxes, including 14 days of email history, calendar appointments, and contacts.

In the event of a server outage, customers automatically switch over to Intermedia’s Exchange servers where they can then access everything through an Outlook Web Access interface.

According to the press release, “OWA provides users with a rich user interface, similar to their experience using the Outlook 2007 desktop client, and is more robust than basic ‘webmail’ clients provided with other solutions.”

Intermedia’s built-in tool ContentSync synchronizes Intermedia’s Business Continuity Exchange servers with its customers’ on-premise Exchange servers, giving customers up-to-date access to their data in the event of an outage.

SpamStopper is a hosted service that provides email filtering, antivirus, antispam and anti-phishing for small businesses that have their own on-premise mail server.

The solution identifies spam messages with nearly a 100 percent rate of accuracy, offers near-perfect spam detection and zero false positives, and includes Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Detection to protect networks from new malware outbreaks before antivirus updates are available.

Intermedia is now offering both of these new solutions, which can be integrated with customers’ on-premise Exchange servers.

Business Continuity is priced at $5 per user per month, while SpamStopper is available for a one-time fee of $50 for the first 50 users, plus 50 cents per user per month for each additional user.
