(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Outsourced support and server management company InstaCarma (www.instacarma.com) – a service used frequently by web hosting providers – announced last week that it has launched an outsourced Ruby on Rails development service under the brand name RailsCarma (www.railscarma.com).
According to the announcement, RailsCarma will provide application development, deployment to the hosting environment and 24-hour monitoring and application management.
The service is also available for web hosting providers to resell under their own brands.
InstaCarma says the product developed out of the existing company’s work as a provider of outsourced support. The company says it began providing support services to Ruby on Rails hosting providers in 2006, while the Rails technology itself was in the early stage of its development. As a result, the company has a team well trained in Ruby on Rails and skilled in deploying Rails applications and managing Rails hosting environments.
“Over these years we’ve frequently been contacted with requests for Ruby on Rails application development,” says InstaCarma director Arun Narayanan, quoted in the announcement. “We also saw that nobody provided a comprehensive solution that included deployment, management etc. It was a logical step for us to launch RailsCarma, which is an integrated service that addresses all these needs very well.”
According to the announcement, a key step in developing the new product was hiring the best Ruby on Rails talent available in India, including Neeraj Chowdhary, who now heads project delivery at the organization.
“Through this initiative, we aim to make it possible for hosting companies to easily add Ruby on Rails web development to their portfolio of services,” says Narayanan. “We feel that there is a huge user base out there that is looking to consume all of their website needs from a single source instead of dealing with different vendors for development, hosting and management. So it makes sense for web hosting companies to also offer all these services under a single umbrella.”
