(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Virtual server technology provider Infinitely Virtual (www.infinitelyvirtual.com) is now using Kingston’s SSDNow V+ SATA Boot VMware on its blade servers, enabling the company to lower power consumption, run VMware ESX instead of ESXI, and increase overall performance.
Unlike traditional hard disk drives that have spinning disks and movable read/write heads, solid-state drives have no moving parts, making them more mechanically reliable and run more efficiently. They also feature faster boot times and faster application loads than HDDs.
According to Infinitely Virtual’s Wednesday announcement, the use of Kingston’s SSDNow V+SATA Boot VMware helps Infinitely Virtual deliver practical, reliable and energy efficient virtual technology services to clients at low prices.
“At Infinitely Virtual, we are constantly upgrading products and services to improve our performance,” Infinitely Virtual president and chief executive officer Adam Stern. “We use Kingston’s SSDNow V+ SATA Boot VMware to lower power consumption and cost to our customers and actually increase performance rather than sacrificing it.”
SSDs have emerged as an important technology for hosting applications. Announced in June, the PowerEdge M710HD blade server, designed for virtual workloads, offers users tremendous I/O flexibility, high memory density, and robust Intel Xeon processing power, as well as hot-swappable SAS and SSD drive capabilities. The latest Dell EqualLogic storage arrays also combine the advantages of SAS and SSD drives in a single enclosure to improve density and performance.
Established as a subsidiary of IT professional services company Altay Corporation (www.altayusa.com), Infinitely Virtual has recently added other enhancements for its clients, such as the inclusion of Microsoft Office 2010 for its virtual server customers.
