(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Virtual hosting provider Infinitely Virtual (www.infinitelyvirtual.com) has moved from software-based solutions to perimeter anti-virus solutions on Juniper (www.juniper.net) firewall products, providing another advanced, cost-effective business solution for customers.
According to Infinitely Virtual’s Monday announcement, its addition of perimeter anti-virus protection was precipitated by company growth, and the desire to add a high-quality anti-virus solution, which is an important part of any unified threat management suite, and an integral part of any security strategy.
To protect against network-level attacks, Juniper devices use a dynamic packet filtering method known as “stateful inspection” to unmask malicious traffic, enabling firewalls to collect information on various components in a packet header, including source and destination IP addresses, source and destination port numbers, and packet sequence numbers. When a responding packet arrives, the firewall will compare the information reported in its header with the state of its associated session, and if they do not match, the packet is dropped.
Stateful inspection provides more security than other firewall technology such as packet filtering because the traffic is examined under the context of the connection and not as a collection of various packets.
“Our clients’ security is our highest priority. Using Juniper’s firewall based anti-virus solution enables Infinitely Virtual to provide our customers valuable protection without sacrificing virtual server performance,” Infinitely Virtual president and chief executive officer Adam Stern said in a statement.
Juniper’s centralized, policy-based management also lets enterprises create security policies to pass or decline certain traffic types from specified sources to specified destinations.
The implementation of perimeter anti-virus protection for Juniper Firewall products takes Infinitely Virtual further in its mission to seek and out and deliver reliable and energy efficient technology services to clients at the industry’s lowest prices.
In July, Infinitely Virtual bought and installed Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways. Based on Juniper’s Dynamic Services Architecture and powered by JUNOS software, SRX gateways are designed to provide robust networking and network access security services for enterprise and service provider infrastructures and applications.
