Infinera Rolling Demo Hits Europe

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Bringing its digital optical network solutions to businesses’ doorsteps, optical networks provider Infinera (www.infinera.com) has begun a European road trip with the Infinera Express, a mobile demonstration bus equipped with state-of-the-art Infinera networking systems to demonstrate to potential clients.

According to Infinera’s announcement, the Infinera Express begins its European tour Tuesday in London, with future stops scheduled elsewhere in the UK, then it will roll on to Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

“The Infinera Express is fully equipped to provide customers with a hands-on experience of the Infinera DTN and the Infinera Management Suite,” Infinera EMEA vice president Tom Schmitt said in a statement. “It’s a powerful demonstration of the digital features and capabilities of the Infinera architecture right on a customer’s doorstep.”

The Infinera Express will be showcasing its data transmission network, Infinera DTN, which is based on the world’s first commercially available large-scale photonic integrated circuits. It delivers 160 wavelengths with scalability up to 8 Terabits per second per fiber, offering significant benefits in scalability, density, speed of operations, and energy efficiency.

The Infinera Express is also equipped with the Infinera Management Suite, a software suite for network deployment, provisioning, and performance monitoring, which automates many of the processes involved in managing and configuring networks.

Infinera’s systems use its proprietary “Bandwidth Virtualization” architecture, designed to deliver any service, including 40 Gigabit per second services over any network infrastructure, however, its speed is bound to increase. Last month, Infinera unveiled record-breaking 400 Gbps optical capacity in a single pair of chips using complex modulation formats under lab conditions, delivering up to 80 percent power savings compared to conventional wavelength optics based on discrete optical components.

In addition, the Infinera Express’ engineers can demonstrate the simplicity and speed of the Infinera system, which can deploy large optical networks with just a few mouse clicks. The demonstration shows how 100 Gbs of optical capacity can be turned up and operational in four minutes or less. Visitors are encouraged to try turning up and configuring optical capacity themselves.

Infinera’s US mobile demo unit has been on the road for more than a year in the US, clocked up more than 20,000 miles and contributing to generating more than $20 million in revenues last year. Infinera is hoping to bring this successful strategy to the European market, where it has already seen strong interest, having won new customers such as Deutsche Telekom, OTEGlobe, and EU Networks in the past year alone.
