(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Digital optical networking systems provider Infinera (www.infinera.com) announced on Thursday that it has joined Allied Fiber’s Dark Fiber Community (www.alliedfiber.com), an online vendor directory that mirrors the fiber system with associated industry participants.
According to the press release, Allied Fiber’s DFC gathers key vendors and facilitates discussions with industry experts to provide services to build their networks.
In November 2010, Allied Fiber announced it had entered into a financing agreement with several partners to complete funding for phase one of its dark fiber system.
“Infinera’s proven industry leadership will be a great asset to the Dark Fiber Community,” Hunter Newby, CEO of Allied Fiber said in a statement. “We are excited to have Infinera join the community and look forward to the joint opportunities that this membership will bring.”
As a backbone of long-haul and global metro networks, Infinera says its DTN optical solution is the first system based on large-scale photonic integrated circuits. It is designed to deliver services from 1GB a second to 40GB a second now, and scale to 100GB a second in the future.
The Infinera ATN is a more compact metro edge platform, designed to support metro transport services, including Ethernet, SAN, SONET/SDH, OTN and video services. Infinera says ATN integrates seamlessly with its DTN platform.
“Infinera is pleased to participate in the Dark Fiber Community, and make the advantages of our digital optical networks available to those seeking to build state-of-the-art new networks,” said Infinera chief strategy officer and co-founder Dr. Dave Welch.
Welch was named to Infinera’s board of directors in October 2010.
