Infinera Intros ATN Metro Platform

Infinera's new ATN metro wavelength division multiplexed edge platform.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Optical communications systems provider Infinera (www.infinera.com) announced on Monday it is introducing a new ATN metro wavelength division multiplexed edge platform.

The ATN platform will provide the benefits of the company’s Digital Optical Networks architecture in a seamless end-to-end managed WDM solution.

With the availability of the ATN platform and Infinera’s submarine solution, which was launched last month, the company now offers complete end-to-end optical networks capability.

Infinera says that its range of products are now carrying live traffic in all segments of the DWDM market, including metro, regional/long-haul, and submarine.

The ATN is designed to offer seamless integration with an Infinera DTN network with a common network management system, which provides end-to-end service provisioning and visibility.

The ATN/DTN network eliminates back-to-back transponders at network interconnection points, providing end-to-end integrated OTN bandwidth management for traffic transiting the network.

The ATN also provides a “best-in-class, high-density platform” for stand-alone metro C/DWDM applications, including data center connectivity, commercial services extension and broadband backhaul.

The compact, metro optical transport platform supports all metro transport services, including Ethernet, SAN, SONET/SDH, OTN and video services.

Infinera says it is already providing six customers with the new ATN platform in the US and overseas, including optical network operators, including telecom carriers, cable operators, and Internet content providers.

“Our customers have embraced the simplicity, efficiency and speed of the Digital Optical Network,” says Infinera CEO Jagdeep Singh. “They have asked us for solutions to extend the Infinera benefits deeper into their metro network. We’re very happy to provide our newest platform, the ATN, to make an end-to-end, tightly integrated Infinera network a reality.”

Infinera will be demonstrating the platform in a ATN/DTN interworking at the Supercomm 2009 (www.supercomm2009.com) trade show, which will be held October 21st through 23rd at the McCormick Place in Chicago.
