(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The US division of India-based global IT services provider HCL Technologies, HCL America (www.hcltech.com), has announced the acquisition of a 35,000-square-foot data center from a Fortune 500 organization in Parsippany, New Jersey, expanding the company’s global footprint.
According to its Monday announcement, the “green” hosting facility also serves to meet HCL’s growing customer demand for eco-friendly, advanced, end-to-end services, including near-shore co-location solutions and services, cloud computing, business continuity and mainframe management services. This new data center adds to HCL’s existing near-shore delivery network in the US, which includes its operations center in Raleigh, North Carolina, and its global data center delivery ecosystem powered by partner facilities across the globe.
“HCL has made a long-standing commitment in growing its presence here in the United States, and today’s announcement of a new, next-generation data center in New Jersey demonstrates our continued dedication, despite the challenging economic environment,” HCL North America infrastructure services division sales senior vice president R Srikrishna said in a statement. “HCL is focused on growing market share in North America. Our new operations, not only in New Jersey, but also in North Carolina, enable us to accomplish that goal while benefiting the local economies through short- and long-term job creation for construction and IT support.”
Since acquiring the data center in October, 2008, HCL began investing more than $15 million in technology and service landscape upgrades, using state-of-the-art consolidation, virtualization, green computing and reference architectures, resulting in higher serviceability, better end-user application response times and significant cost savings over the past 10 months.
HCL is further upgrading the facility to meet the Uptime Institute’s (www.uptimeinstitute.org) Tier III guidelines. It also plans to deploy best-of-breed, eco-friendly technologies to meet the LEED guidelines established by the US Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org).
HCL also intends to hire more than 100 local US workers for the facility, a crucial investment according to HCL service delivery infrastructure services division senior vice president C Vijay Kumar said in a statement.
“We believe that our investment in local geographies and innovative solutions and services will provide significantly reduced TCO and enhanced IT performance including proximity benefits to US enterprises,” Kumar said in a statement. “This facility is yet another milestone in HCL’s aggressive expansion and its commitment to provide right-shore delivery options to customers around the globe.”
HCL chose New Jersey for its new facility due to its highly skilled workforce and proximity to customers in the greater New York City area, particularly those in the financial services, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries.
