(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Image hosting provider ImageShack (http://imageshack.us) announced on Tuesday it has released a new open source application called Tweetero, designed to display media on 3G networks for devices like the iPhone and iPod Touch.

In addition to letting users view their friend’s updates, replies, and send and receive direct messages, the mobile application lets users upload photos to ImageShack’s yfrog media hosting service.

Yfrog has gained popularity in usage since its launch in February.

The service lets users upload photos and share them via the service’s condensed URL links that they send to Twitter.

With the release of Twitterero, ImageShack hopes to help other third party developers build in quality media experiences for their own Twitter applications using Tweetero code, while encouraging them to pay Imageshack for its image hosting service.

As ImageShack’s first step into Twitter and mobile applications, the company hopes to drive more visitiors to its media hosting site, which already has 33 million unique visitors.

ImageShack will also soon allow users to host and share videos on the site, including high quality H.264 standard videos.

The Twitter community continues to grow at an enormous rate.

The website’s traffic is expected to more than double this month to 30 million unique visitors in the US alone.

The release of Tweetero signals an ongoing trend of third party developers building applications for Twitter.

In addition to Twitpic, Tweetie and Twittelator, ImageShack rival Photobucket is also has a Twitter/media hosting app in the works.

Salesforce recently announced it would add Twitter to its Service Cloud solution, and will begin offering integration with customer data to subscribers from this summer.
