ICANN Delays .org Operator Selection
Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.
September 6, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) delayed its decision in the selection of a new operator for the .org domain registry.
ICANN posted an announcement Wednesday on its Web site saying it had postponed the release of the reviewed version of the report recommending a candidate to take over management of the database of .org domains, indicating an intense debate over the issue.
ICANN had originally planned to release the report on Thursday, but has pushed back the date to September 14 because of the number of comments it received from both applicants and the public.
Posted on the ICANN Web site, the comments came in response to the release of a draft of the report, which included reviews of 11 bids, identifying the Internet Society as the top candidate.
The organization says it needs more time to question applications about conflicts and ambiguities in the comments provided. ICANN says it wants to take time to carefully review every comment.
