(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IBM (www.ibm.com) announced on Wednesday that it has been selected by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah to design and build a new energy efficient data center.
The new data center design is expected to ensure that AAA NCNU meets its present computing needs, with the ability to scale to accomodate its future business needs.
AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah offers a range of automotive, travel, insurance and financial services to over four million clients throughout Northern California, Nevada and Utah.
The company selected IBM based on its high-quality service, industry expertise and cost effectiveness.
Under the agreement terms, IBM will deploy the data center consolidation with the end goals of reducing energy consumption as well as reducing cost, space and IT maintenance, while enhancing the efficiency and capacity of its data center facilities.
“IBM is focused on helping clients become smarter by adopting ‘green’ and energy-efficient technologies that help them bring down their operational costs,” says Steve Sams, vice president of site and facilities services at IBM. “Our long history and expertise with data center implementations will enable us to create a solution to save energy and ensure efficient server performance for AAA NCNU.”
According to the press release, the two companies signed the agreement back in May and expect construction to be completed in December.
IBM has been a leading advocate of green data center practices. Earlier this week, the company announced it is partnering with Omaha, Nebraska’s Metropolitan Community College to develop the first-ever green data center management degree using the company’s hardware, software and online skills training resources.
In June, RackForce enlisted IBM’s expertise to implement innovative design features to support both RackForce’s current and future technologies, as well as partnered with Syracuse University in May to build a $12.4 million, 6,000-square-foot green data center.
