April 1, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IBM (ibm.com) announced on Thursday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Candle Corporation (candle.com), a developer of enterprise level IT infrastructure and application management software. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Candle has been an IBM Business Partner since our founding in 1976,” says Aubrey Chernick, chairman and chief executive officer of Candle Corporation, “and we’ve always taken synergistic paths with our technologies and strategies. Combining the two companies will offer our customers a more comprehensive set of solutions, which will enable IT to deliver greater business value.”
IBM said the acquisition would complement its middleware solutions and give its customers an enhanced set of software solutions for managing an “on demand” operating environment.
“Candle brings award-winning infrastructure management expertise and technology to the IBM software portfolio,” said Steve Mills, senior vice president and group executive of IBM Software Group. “Together we will provide customers with powerful capabilities for managing end-to-end infrastructure, processes and applications, which are key requirements for the on demand operating environment.”
