IaaS Provider ProfitBricks Launches Referral Program with 25 Percent Commission

Cloud infrastructure as a service provider ProfitBricks announced on Monday that it has launched a referral program that promises partners 2-3 times the commission rates of its competitors.

ProfitBricks USA CEO Bob Rizika says that while Rackspace, GoGrid and SoftLayer are in the 5-10 percent commission range, ProfitBricks offers partners up to 25 percent commission of a customer’s net revenue.

“Our cost structure is much lower than the other guys and as a result we can offer a much richer commission structure to our partners,” Rizikia says in a phone interview with the WHIR.

The lower cost structure is achieved through its use of InfiniBand technology, which allows it to separate the storage, RAM and CPU from boxes and connect them over a high speed network, at 80 times the speed of its competitors who use ethernet, according to Rizikia. With InfiniBand, Rizikia says customers can “mix and match” and “literally build whatever [they] want,” with instance sizes up to 48 CPU, 196 RAM, and 256 TB of storage. Atlantic.Net upgraded its cloud infrastructure with InfiniBand technology in October.

A recent CloudSpectator performance test found that ProfitBricks outperformed Amazon AWS and Rackspace by considerable margins.

Aside from the flexibility that Infinband offers customers, and ProfitBricks’ by-the-minute pricing, its Data Center Designer – where customers can drag-and-drop graphical servers and firewalls to a blank canvas – really helps its partners make a business case for their customers.

“We’ve made it incredibly easy for partners to demo our product with our whole graphical interface,” Rizikia says. “No one has ever seen it done with that speed or that flexibility and the guys in beta say it makes it really easy for them to show their customers and refer people.”

ProfitBricks is a relatively new entrant to the US cloud market, launching in July 2012, and Rizikia says it wanted to ensure that everything was working properly before introducing the referral program.

The ProfitBricks referral program is geared towards developers, IT consultants, system integrators and ISVs, according to the press release.

While the referral program is open for business and is accepting sign-ups today, there is another partner program in the works from ProfitBricks. Rizikia says its reseller program is still in the early alpha stages, but is slotted to launch by mid-2013.

ProfitBricks launched its startup program in December for eligible New England startups to gain a free cloud server for one year and a 20 percent discount on IaaS services.
