Hurricane Electric Upgrades Connection

December 12, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Hurricane Electric (he.net) announced on Monday it has increased the size of its connection at PAIX Palo Alto. The upgrade follows other recent upgrades Hurricane Electric made to its network connectivity in the US, which include upgrades at Telehouse New York, Equinix Ashburn, and Equinix San Jose.

Hurricane Electric enhanced its connection to the PAIX exchange from a Gigabit Ethernet port to a 10GB Ethernet port, making it one of only a handful of networks that employs a 10GB Ethernet port to the PAIX switch. The upgrade was made as a result of the company experiencing significant traffic growth over the past few months. It will considerably boost the amount of traffic Hurricane Electric can handle over its network and will greatly increase its connectivity to its peering networks.

“We are working on upgrading even more exchange points across our network to improve our connectivity in the US and around the world,” says Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. “Our goal is to continue to improve our network and offer our customers increased capacity, more reliability, and faster throughput.”

To coincide with the upgrade, Hurricane Electric is offering a transit promotion, providing those who own their own AS number and address space with an additional 100Mbps for free when they purchase 100 Mbps or more via Gigabit Ethernet. With this promotion, it would cost $2,000 for 200 Mbps burstable on a GigE interface.
