Hurricane Electric Serves Washington DC Area

August 13, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Technical service and colocation provider Hurricane Electric (HE.net) announced on Monday that it will begin offering direct connections and colocation service in the Washington DC Area.

The company extended its network to the area last week, adding an Internet exchange point through a partnership with Internet exchange service provider Equinix Inc.

“We are expanding our network everyday,” says Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. “Washington DC is the next logical major metropolitan area for our network. Our current customers have expressed a lot of interest in our services and bandwidth in the Washington DC area. We wanted to make them happy, so we found a way to do it.”

The company says it is now offering a T3 out of Ashburn, VA, located in the Washington DC area, at a cost of $4,500 per month. Hurricane Electric is also offering an OC12 for $15,000 a month. Setup fees on both of the packages are waived as part of the company?s “Welcome to our Capitol” special.
