(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Spanish construction firm Ferrovial (www.ferrovial.es) announced on Monday it has signed a 10 year agreement with HP (www.hp.com) to provide the company with IT infrastructure and services, according to a report by Data Center Dynamics.
The project will consolidate Ferrovial’s existing 18 data centers into two data centers — one in Spain and one in the US.
The 10-year deal with Ferrovial also includes software and management and administration processes during this time period.
HP will help to upgrade Ferrovial’s existing IT system by using the latest technology and centralizing services management.
Ferrovial said that it needed significant flexibility in order to support the rapid growth of its business, improve usage cost efficiency bydeploying standardizing and centralizing platforms, and deploy innovative technologies including cloud computing.
“We are extremely pleased to collaborate on innovating and improving the competitiveness of a Spanish multinational with the global potential of Ferrovial,” says José Antonio de Paz, chairman of HP Spain. “The experience of a global leader in IT transformation processes like HP, together with our talented team, will enable us to approach the technological and business challenges in this agreement from a position of assured success.”
HP has had considerable experience in consolidating data centers. In December 2008, HP completed a three-year initiative in which it consolidated its 85 data centers down to a six pack of three redundant, highly virtualization data centers.
Then just last month, HP announced it will consolidate its own enterprise services’ data centers, management platforms, networks, tools and applications to create a more scalable, modernized and automated IT infrastructure in an effort to better serve its customers’ needs.
