November 1, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Computer hardware manufacturer HP (HP.com) and email software solution developer Sendmail Inc. (Sendmail.com) announced on Thursday that they have released the results of a performance benchmark testing the performance of Sendmail?s email software on HP ProLiant servers versus proprietary Sun Systems.
The results, says HP, show significant performance benefits and better message throughput are achieved through deploying the Sendmail mail and message software solution on industry-standard hardware running Linux, compared to the more expensive Sun servers running Solaris.
HP says the testing showed that Sendmail software running on two- and four-way HP ProLiant servers with SuSE Linux Enterprise 7 and the Reiser Filesystem performed significantly better than on Sun servers running Solaris in the areas of throughput, price and performance.
