HP Names Mark Hurd as new CEO

March 30, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Hewlett-Packard (hp.com) has named Mark Hurd its chief executive officer a month after Carly Fiorina was forced out by the board of directors over disagreements on the company’s strategic direction.

Hurd will take over as CEO April 1 and join the board of directors. He succeeds Robert Wayman, who served as the interim CEO and will stay on as chief financial officer.

“HP is one of the world’s great companies, with a proud history of innovation, outstanding talent and enviable positions in many of its product lines and services,” says Hurd. “It’s a great honor to join its leadership team and have the opportunity to build on its success.”

Hurd joins HP from NCR Corporation, where he was president and chief executive officer.
