(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Representing the largest facility of its kind and the single largest investment by a multinational technology company in Malaysia, HP (www.hp.com) has opened the doors of its “HP Global Center Cyberjaya” data center. According to HP’s announcement this week, the state-of-the-art, multipurpose Cyberjaya facility occupies a 60-acre campus, and also boasts an internal HP Global Application Development and Support Center, and an HP Global Finance Center.
Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Abdul Razak, and HP chief financial officer Cathie Lesjak, and HP executive vice president and chief information officer Randy Mott were present at the launch.
“The Malaysian government recognizes the immense transformational power of technology and innovation and how it can improve the lives of all Malaysians as we progress on our journey to become a high-income, innovation-led economy,” Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib said. “We are pleased with the ongoing rejuvenation and growth within the private sector. Today’s launch of the HP Global Center Cyberjaya further enhances the country’s reputation and capabilities to host innovation and knowledge-intensive companies.”
This new facility represents HP’s latest investment to drive strategic growth in Asia. Serving global HP Enterprise Services clients, the center is home to one of six HP Best Shore global delivery hubs and, as part of future investment plans, will house a client-centric HP Next Generation Data Center.
“Malaysia has a vibrant economy with an educated workforce,” Lesjak said. “As a global company operating in more than 170 countries, HP seeks to increase its long-term investments in strong growth markets such as Malaysia to support our continued growth in products and services in the Asia Pacific region. We are honored to contribute toward advancing the Malaysian government’s commitment to building a dynamic, innovation-driven economy.”
HP said it worked closely with Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation to set world-class standards for information infrastructure in the development of this new global center. HP’s expanded investment in Malaysia, which already boasts three HP offices, is the result of a rapidly growing customer base, Malaysia’s strategic location, supportive government initiatives and the developed high-tech infrastructure of Cyberjaya.
“We share the same pride as HP as we witness the launch of the Global Center. The close relationship we have with HP has significantly contributed to the achievement we see today for HP in Malaysia’s “Multimedia Super Corridor”. We are happy that HP is committed to their expansion plan and look forward to continue to lend our support,” MDeC chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said in a statement.
As a global MSC Malaysia Cybercity hub, and preferred location for information and communications technology , multimedia and services for innovation and operations, Cyberjaya gives HP easy access to a solid ICT resource base, a growing skilled pool of knowledge workers, and world-class infrastructure.
