HP Debuts New Blade Server Environment

September 21, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Computer hardware maker Hewlett-Packard (hp.com) announced on Monday that it had introduced a new integrated environment, the new HP BladeSystem, building on existing HP blade servers, services and networking along with new management software and virtualization tools, in an effort to usher in what it calls the next phase of utility computing.

HP says it plans to accelerate adoption of the HP BladeSystem by providing installation and start-up services of the blade management software for the discounted rate of $1,600 per engagement.

The company says its modular approach to utility computing makes it easier for customers to integrate HP’s utility computing capabilities into existing environments. In addition to the HP BladeSystem, the company’s modular utility computing offerings include the HP Virtual Server Environment, HP OpenView change and configuration management solutions and HP Utility Services managed services.
