HP Cloud Chief Resigns Following Launch of Converged Cloud Unit

HP Converged Cloud SVP and general manager Zorawar “Biri” Singh has reportedly left the company for unknown reasons, and has been replaced by VP of technology and customer relations Roger Levy on an “interim basis”.

Singh’s departure comes just a week after the launch of the HP Converged Cloud unit in which HP appointed Saar Gillai as general manage.

In an internal memo sent in September, Singh announced that HP would launch the Converged Cloud division but did not specify that Gillai’s title would include general manager. Additionally, the memo also noted that Gillai would report to Singh.

However, when HP announced the launch of the Converged Cloud unit last week, the company said that Gillai would, in fact, report to HP chief operating officer Bill Veghte.

Whether Singh left HP because his role with the Converged Cloud unit was diminished role or if he had found a position with another company remains to be seen.

Singh was initially hired away from IBM in 2011 by former HP CEO Leo Apothekerwith to oversee development of a new cloud services platform, and has since then led HP’s global cloud computing division.

In a written statement, HP spokesperson did not divulge the reasons as to why Singh’s left but said it would not affect HP’s strategy for the new unit.

“HP remains committed to our Converged Cloud portfolio. In particular, HP Cloud Services is critical to HP’s efforts to deliver superior public cloud infrastructure, services and solutions to our customers,” said an HP spokesperson. “Roger Levy, vice president, Technology and Customer Operations of HP Cloud Services, will serve as the interim leader for HP Cloud Services. The company thanks Zorawar ‘Biri’ Singh for his passion and commitment to drive our public cloud vision and wish him well.”

In May, Singh oversaw the launch of HP Cloud Services, a public cloud solution that integrates HP infrastructure, computing and storage components, and ultimately compete current cloud leaders, Amazon and Google.

A few months later, HP launched a series of updates to its cloud services to help service providers create new revenue streams.

Talk Back: Do you think Singh’s departure will affect the future of HP Converged Cloud unit? Do you think that Gillai will succeed in his role as GM of the new unit? Let us know in the comments.
