According to Hostway’s director of marketing, John Lee, as of 4:00 pm Tuesday, the company’s spam and email filtering system CleanMail had blocked an average of three MyDoom attacks per email account.

CleanMail, free of charge to customers, was integrated into Hostway’s Web hosting offerings last week.

Meanwhile, Montana-based Modwest also reported successful blocking of the MyDoom virus today.

“We’re filtering nearly two thousand per hour, making the MyDoom/Novarg worm one of the hardest-hitting worms that we’ve seen,” said John Masterson, vice president and co-founder of Modwest. “The system is handling the increased load, and no viruses or worms are getting through.”

Modwest includes virus filtering free of charge for all its Web hosting plans. For managed server accounts, the service is a paid option.

The MyDoom virus began spreading on Monday, January 26 at around 9:00 pm GMT. The virus has become the fastest-spreading in history, and is believed to have already caused more than $3 billion in economic damage worldwide.
