HostingArmor Offers Website Security Scanning Tool

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet security solution provider HostingArmor.com (www.hostingarmor.com) announced on Wednesday that it has launched its website security scanning tool, offering website operators a simple and affordable means of scanning their sites for malware vulnerabilities.

The problem, according to the company’s announcement, is that while many website operators understand how to run their businesses, a much smaller number of them understand how to maintain a secure server.

“I’ve seen, time and time again, situations when website owners will assume that their hosting company or their webmaster keeps their server patched and up to date and secure against web application vulnerabilities,” says Sean Faircloth, co-director of technical operations, quoted in the press release. “All too often this is not the case. The problem is, most site owners know and understand how to run their business, but know very little about maintaining secure servers.”

Whereas scanning a server for security holes has traditionally required complex installations and a certain degree of security expertise, HostingArmor says its tool was designed to bring an equivalent level of technical detail to a broader audience. The tool works without software install.

The company says it is offering a free 30-day trial of the vulnerability scanner, which allows a website operator to scan their domain up to 35 times during that first month.

In its announcement for the tool, HostingArmor doesn’t specifically mention a means for hosts to distribute the service, but in the reseller section of its website, the company describes a white label program through which the tool can be re-branded.

“HostingArmor was initially developed specifically for value-added resellers to use,” says the company, on its website.
