Hosting, ERP Will Help Drive IT Spending: Report

September 2, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — 80 percent of companies expect their 2004 IT budgets to grow or remain stable, while overall budgets are expected to grow by two percent, according to new data from AMR Research (amrresearch.com).

The Boston-based strategic advisory firm said companies continue to outsource Web hosting and data center services in an effort to reduce costs and focus on core competencies, and that application development is a primary area for outsourcing, as more than 57 percent of companies surveyed outsourced this function.

The company also said spending on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications and Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications would continue to grow in 2004, while the overall budget allocation for customer management applications would remain constant in 2004.
