Hosting.com, VMware Partner for Cloud Trial

vSphere 4 offers greater control and efficiency over previous VMware releases, while continuing to allow customers a wide variety of operating system and application choices for deployment on internal clouds.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Hosting.com (www.hosting.com) announced on Friday that it will be providing free trials of its CloudNine cloud hosting platform following the launch of VMware’s vSphere 4 software earlier this week.

Announced on Monday, vSphere is the latest version of the cloud operating system formerly known as VMware Infrastructure. The product is designed for building “internal clouds,” which Hosting.com says complements its own CloudNine solution.

Hosting.com says CloudNine provides infrastructure as a service, providing “virtually unlimited” computing resources, a redundant infrastructure and easy expandability, and is constructed on the VMware platform.

Hosting.com has partnered with VMware as part of that company’s vCloud initiative, a cloud ecosystem bringing together the company’s vSphere technology with the hosting capabilities of a series of partners and a marketplace of applications distributed through the “virtual appliance marketplace.” Hosting.com’s CloudNine is one of a short list of service provider partners being promoted on the vCloud section of the VMware website.

As part of the program, Hosting.com is offering  a 30-day free trial of CloudNine, through which developers and others will be able to “experience cloud computing firsthand.”

Signup for the free CloudNine trial is available on the company’s website.

“VMware vSphere 4 is not only an exciting launch for VMware, but also for the entire virtualization and cloud computing communities,” says Jonathan Erwin, VP of sales and marketing for Hosting.com, quoted in the company’s announcement. “As part of the VMware vCloud initiative, the CloudNine trial offer will increase accessibility to cloud computing and hosting for companies of all sizes.”

Hosting.com says it hopes the free offering will eliminate the cost barrier to potential customers trying out cloud computing, and possibly convincing them of the cost and scalability value of this type of service. The company says it is working to push CloudNine to the forefront of cloud hosting solutions.

“As part of the VMware vCloud initiative, we are excited to work with Hosting.com to bring cloud services solutions to our customers, and to enable users to easily test drive the cloud with this new free trial,” said Dan Chu, vice president, emerging products and solutions, VMware. “VMware and Hosting.com will continue to work closely together to deliver private cloud solutions to business customers looking to leverage the cloud while maintaining the service levels, security, and manageability of their internal IT environments.”

More information on the vCloud program is available from the information section on the VMware website.
