Horizon Facility Sees Fast Growth

September 26, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center managed services provider Horizon Data Center Solutions (horizondcs.com), a fairly new player in the market, announced on Wednesday it has seen what the company calls “stellar growth” in the last quarter.

Having launched in June, Horizon says it saw 300 percent growth in the last quarter with several large IBM installations, some major enterprise resource planning implementations, the signing of three Global 250 companies and a major hospital.

Horizon, which is part of data center operator Digital Realty Trust’s portfolio of Turn-Key data centers, operates a 25,000 square foot facility inĀ  Dallas and offers “Tier III space with Tier IV attributes per the Uptime Institute definitions.”

The company attributes its fast growth to Horizon’s “focus on customer needs and flexibility, as well as on providing the state-of-the-art infrastructure that medium to large enterprises require.”

Horizon says its FlexSpace Program may have also helped with achieving this kind of growth. Instead of offering a “one size fits all” solution, FlexSpace enables customers to build a customized data center and IT services program that meets their specific space, service level and contract requirements.

“Our experience in the data center business has taught us a lot about how not to run a data center,” says Lance A. Smith, president and CEO of Horizon Data Center Solutions. “Customer needs don’t all fit into one neat package, and most large data centers are not willing to bend their programs to meet specific client requirements. Our goal with Horizon is to make sure that customer needs drive the services, not the other way around.”

Horizon, along with fiber optic connectivity solutions provider AboveNet, also recently commissioned the building of a $2 million private fiber ring that ensures further reliability and gives the company’s clients the benefit of real-time replication for disaster recovery and continuity between data centers. The first two nodes of that ring went online this month and will give Horizon the ability to touch more than 25 carriers over a private network.

Perhaps indicative of its fast growth, the company is also in the process of developing two more facilities in the Dallas area. Horizon says plans are underway to lease space to house a second data center that will open later this year, followed closely by a third facility, targeted to launch around spring of 2009.
